manuel alberto claro

Manuel Alberto Claro is an award winning Chilean-Danish Cinematographer, who was born in Santiago, Chile and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. Claro studied still photography in Milan and worked as an assistant photographer before attending the prestigious National Film School of Denmark to study cinematography.  Claro has not only been nominated but has also won a variety of international cinematography awards at the Venice Film Festival, Camerimage, the Cannes Film Festival, and the European Film Awards.  Additionally Claro’s movies have premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival. 

Claro is most recognized for his collaboration with Director Lars Von Trier for the feature films, The House that Jack Built which premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2018; Nymphomaniac I & Nymphomaniac II; and Melancholia. Claro is also recognized for this work with Director Christoffer Boe for the feature film, Everything Will Be FineAllegro and Reconstruction.  He has also worked with Chris Rock for the feature film, Top Five. Additionally, Claro has also been praised for the Danish drama feature film, Rebounce.

 

Claro works in advertising around the world when not working on films.

Claro speaks three languages fluently; Danish, English and Spanish and is married with two children.
