Michael Fernandez is a Cinematographer from California's Central Valley. Son of a migrant cotton picker from the Mississippi Delta, Michael learned photography from his father who documented the everyday life and beauty of their working class family and has since carried on this way of seeing the world.

Fernandez recently made his feature film debut as Cinematographer on “The Burial of Kojo” directed by Samuel Bazuwule, which was recently acquired by Ava DuVernay’s ArrayNow and currently streaming on Netflix.

Since its indie debut “TBOK” has received worldwide praise from various news sources, notable directors and film festivals. The New York Times gave it ‘Critics pick of the week’ and called the film “A near-virtuoso work, a feast of emotion, nuance and beauty.” The New Yorker called it “A bold lyrical portrait” and listed it a top movie of 2019. TBOK has received love and support from notable directors such as Ava DuVernay (Selma), Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) and Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth). During its indie film fest run, TBOK won Best Narrative Feature at the Luxor African Film Fest and Best Narrative Film at Urban World.
